Overview: pcAnywhere is a powerful support tool for TPS2000. With
pcAnywhere the EON technicians can connect directly to your computer and
quickly resolve any technical software difficulties. It is also a great
tool for on-site training, or for situations when you want to show us
how something works (or does not work). Having pcAnywhere is almost as
good as having a technician right at your site.
The problem in the past has been that by using pcAnywhere over a
telephone modem, the connection suffered from the long-distance
connection, and often resulted in slow response time or unpredictable
disconnections. Telephones were just not designed for long-distance data
communication.
We have now upgraded our technical infrastructure with direct Internet
Access and can now support pcAnywhere connections over the Internet,
which is faster and more reliable.
Prepare your PC to connect over the Internet
(This needs to be done only ONCE)
- Double-Click on the pcAnywhere Icon in your desktop and you'll get
this screen.
- Click on "Be A Host PC"
- Click WITH THE RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON on Network and select
"Properties".
See screenshot
- Click on the Connection Info tab and clear all checkboxes, except for the TCP/IP checkbox. Ensure that the TCP/IP box is checked.
- Click on Ok.
Your pcAnywhere is now configured for access via the Internet.
Connect with pcAnywhere over the Internet
(This needs to be done every time EON tech support staff want to go
on-line.)
-
1. Connect to the Internet, by using your normal Internet account (e.g.
AOL, Earthlink or AltaVista Free Access). Enter your password and click
the connect-button or whatever it takes to be connected to the Internet.
You can tell that you have a live Internet connection when you see the
green symbol blinking in the bottom right corner of your screen (looks
like2 PCs connected to each other).
If you have Internet Explorer running, you can close it now or minimize
it.
- After the Internet Connection Double-Click on the pcAnywhere Icon in
your desktop and you'll get
this screen.
- Double-Click on the Network icon and pcAnywhere will go into the
Host Waiting mode, as you can see in the bottom in the Windows task bar.
See screenshot
- Click the pcAnywhere Taskbar button to display the pcAnywhere Host
Status screen.
See screenshot
- The "pcAnywhere waiting" window displays the IP Address of the host.
Write down this address and tell it to the EON technician. The EON
technician will use that number to connect to your computer.
Troubleshooting:
In some installations, where you have a network and a modem at the same
time, pcAnywhere is not waiting on the right address. You can typically
tell that it is not the right address, if the number begins with 192 or
196. In this case, you need to follow the instruction in this link to
make a change to pcAnywhere's configuration:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/pca.nsf/docid/19973683442
If you have any difficulties or uncertainties with these instructions,
please contact the EON Tech Support who can then perform the setup steps
on your computer.
