Lists of Paragraphs/items may be edited in a similar manner.  Let’s take “Degree of Pain” as an example.  To find this item, click on Show List of Records.  Click once in the Description field then type in DEG. When this entry has been pulled up on the screen, you will see the following:

Text/Formula/Items window will display the items you may choose in <  > (i.e. <Active Pain Bilaterally>) and under the item heading, the paragraph or sentence that will print when this item is selected.

As you can see, many of these preset sentences and paragraphs contain other merge fields as well.

To add a new entry to the existing list of a paragraph selection, such as Degree of Pain, you will go to where you want to see this item displayed within the list, hit enter and start typing; (i.e.  if you wish to insert another selection between <Mild Pain Bilaterally> and <Mild Pain on the Right> you would arrow to the first character (<) of the line <Mild Pain on the Right> and hit enter to start a new line.  Now arrow up to that blank line and you are ready to insert your selection.

Create the Description:

The item description will need to be typed within the “<” and “>” characters.  Anything within these characters is what will be displayed when you are selecting items in the narrative process.  When you have entered this description, hit enter to go to the next line.  You are now ready to setup the sentence or paragraph you wish to have printed in your narrative when this description has been selected.

Example:             <Mild Pain on the Left>

Add the Entry:

Type in the sentence or paragraph that you wish to have printed in your narrative.  You may also include merge words and other inserts that have already been created.

To add a merge field to the document/letter place your cursor where you wish to add this field and click on [Insert an Element].

You have four categories of “insertable elements” available.  You may select either Prompts, Lists of Categories, Random Selections, or Individual Fields from the system.  When you have made the category selection, the window will fill with all of the choices necessary.

You may either scroll through the list of items, or click once in the window then type the first few letters of the item for which you are searching.  When you have found your selection, either double click on the item, or click once and click on [Insert the Selected Item] to add this entry to your list or choice item.

Example:   [HE/SHE] is experiencing mild pain on the left

The final result will look like this:

<Mild Pain On The Left>

[HE/SHE] is experiencing mild pain on the left
