Information on Wireless
Networking:
A Wireless network works the same way as a wired network except instead of
transmitting information through a wire it transmits through the air in a
way nearly identical to a cordless phone (it does not work like a cell
phone.) There are several kinds of wireless networks but the one we find
most appropriate is 802.11g. “G” is several times faster than the other
wireless networking types, which makes it better for fast access to
patient records.
- Each Tablet PC or Convertible must have an 802.11g wireless
networking card installed.
- There must be at least one wireless router that is connected to
your normal network or PC to form the wireless connection. If your
office is quite large you may need additional wireless routers.
Consult with your local hardware expert to determine the number of
wireless routers appropriate to cover your office space.
- Most Tablet PC’s, Convertibles and Laptops are set to drop down to
half speed when they are unplugged and running on battery. You may
find that this is too slow. This is done to save battery power. We
suggest that you turn off this power saving feature so that it runs
full speed all the time. To do this simply go into Control Panel –
Power Options and change the setting from Portable\Laptop to either
Always On or Home\Office Desk. This will force the processor to run at
maximum speed all the time.
